When will the new hospital be completed?

  • The project is scheduled for completion in December 2013, with Eskenazi Health fully operational in 2014.

How big will the new hospital be?

  • The new facilities will be approximately 1.2 million square feet.

Where will Eskenazi Health be located?

  • Eskenazi Health facilities will be located between West 10th Street and Michigan Street, directly west of the current Wishard facilities. The new hospital will stand on the site of the former Larue D. Carter Psychiatric Hospital and the Indiana State Department of Health, which are being demolished.

What will be included in Eskenazi Health campus?

  • The new campus will feature an approximately 327-inpatient bed hospital, a 200-room ambulatory care building, 18 operating rooms, 12 labor and delivery rooms, a 90-bed emergency department and a 2,700-car parking garage along with a faculty and research building with offices for Eskenazi Health’s IU School of Medicine faculty physicians and administrative staff. The new facilities will include the hospital as well as a parking garage, ambulatory care building and a faculty and research building.

Does the new hospital project have a labor agreement in place?

  • The project has a project labor agreement to help ensure that it will be completed on time and on budget.

How will the Eskenazi Health project work to ensure diversity in the construction process?

  • The project has a diversity plan to maximize participation of minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses, with the goal of exceeding the City of Indianapolis’ goals of 15 percent minority, 8 percent women and 3 percent veteran participation.

How many jobs will be created by the Eskenazi Health project?

  • As with any building project, particularly one of this magnitude, Eskenazi Health construction is creating jobs not only directly at the construction site itself but also indirectly, including for vendors and businesses throughout and affiliated with the building trades industry. This project will create 4,400 jobs.
